Archives Unveiled: A Journey Through the Real History of Burlesque (Virtual Event)

Join the Theatre Research Institute for our 2024-2025 Lawrence and Lee Invited Lecture with Burlesque performer Bella Sin. A symposium on the history and cultural significance of Burlesque will accompany the lecture. This program is sponsored by the Theatre Research Institute, the Department of Dance and the Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts.

This event will feature a keynote lecture from the renowned performer and historian of Queer and Latinx burlesque, Bella Sin, who will challenge the ways that burlesque has traditionally been thought about through a colonial lens. Attendees will enjoy a panel discussion with PhD candidates, Alyssa Stover and Ashley Dunn and burlesque performer Grand Mafun and learn about the significant burlesque collections in Thompson Library Special Collections at The Ohio State University.

Free Transfemme & Transmasc Makeup Class

On Transgender Day of Visibility, Freya Misdemeanor is offering 2 completely free makeup classes for Transgender humans! One centering Transfemme (12pm) and one for Transmasc (1pm)
This event will be held in partnership Their House Inc.

All makeup products and tools will be provided, to the fist 5 humans who register for each class; and will be live-streamed on @theirhouseinc on instagram

Makeup is a form of expression, and an artform. This class shows some easy tips, techniques and tricks for anyone with any level of makeup experience- to feel more comfortable in their skin. While this class is open to all skill levels; it is encouraged for humans newer to the makeup world.

Any class that could help with the continuing education and honing of the burlesque craft is welcome! This can include workshops, classes, or series on any of the following and beyond: burlesque, heels dance, chair acro, rhinestoning and other costuming, circus skills, kittening or producing, etc. Basically, anything that could increase our skills sections on our performer resumes!
